Road Materials Laboratory

  • Our Service

    • Bitumen tests: softening point, penetration test, specific gravity, ductility test, viscosity and extraction.
    • Bituminous mixes: testing of materials, job mixed formula, preparation of Marshall specimen, density, stability & flow value tests, determination of air voids, void filled with bitumen in the mix.
    • Core test: cored specimens are collected from pavement surfaces then the test are conducted for its density, gradation & bitumen content.

    Our Major Equipments

    • Marshall Stability

            Standard: ASTM D6927, AASHTO T245

Not all asphalt materials were created the same, thus engineers need to predict how well an asphalt mixture will perform in addition to the maximum load it can support. Marshall test is one of the most common methods in dictating the best proportion of aggregate and binder materials for a mixed design. By measuring many qualities of asphalt specimen, it progressively narrows in on an optimum asphalt mix design for a specific application.

    • Extractor

             Standard: ASTM D 2172, AASHTO T-58, T-164, EN 12697-1

To determine and check the bitumen percentage in bituminous mix, the mix is added with a solvent and dissolved bitumen is removed by centrifugal action.

    • Ductility

             Standard: AASHTO T300, AASHTO T301, AASHTO T51, ASTM D113, ASTM D6084/6084M

To measure the elongation of a binder specimen before failure. The ends of a molded specimen are pulled apart in a liquid-filled trough at a specified speed and temperature. Tensile strength and ductility of specimens can be measured concurrently with the addition of the Force Ductility Kits.

    • Asphalt Mixer

            Standard: EN 12697-35; BS 598-107

The Asphalt Mixer is designed for mixing Asphalt samples that can be used for mechanical tests for example compaction, indirect tensile, Marshall, etc. The bituminous mix must be prepared at a prescribed temperature for this reason the mixer can be equipped with a thermostatically controlled heater.
